Eating disorders are
not just about food they are about feeling.
All eating disorders
carry a range of effects whether they are physical or psychological. Eating disorders carry a lot of similar
effects. Most people suffering from an
eating disorder experience:
- Anxiety
- Fear
- Nightmares
- Sleeplessness
- Depression
- Shame
- Guilt
- Relationship problems
However, there are
more specific effects to each type of eating disorder.
Effects of Anorexia.
- Lethargy
- Anaemia
- Calcium deficiency
- Hormone imbalance which can lead to
infertility
- Osteoporosis
- Heart and Kidney failure
- Muscle waste
- Bowel Problems
- Depression (10% of sufferers commit
suicide)
- Low blood pressure
- Circulation disturbance
Effects of Bulimia.

- Tooth erosion
- Mouth and throat infections
- Bowel disturbance. ( long term laxative
abuse can cause colon damage)
- Chemical imbalance can result in
dehydration which can lead to kidney failure or sudden heart attacks
- Depression
Effects of Over Eating.
- Serious weight gain
- Being over weight
- Swelling of the joints and general
‘puffiness’
- Stomach pain
- Constipation
- Excessive gas
